A good number of us construct great goals, but fail to achieve them. Many will quit in a few days after starting. Why? It is because we lose track of the goals and become apathetic in the process.
At the beginning of my career, I constructed many goals but failed to achieve some of them. I felt like I was not working hard enough. Was that true? Of course not! I worked hard to complete the goals on time but fell short.
After some years I came to realize that I was doing it the wrong way. Hard work alone is not enough to complete goals on time. Here is a list of what I’ve discovered that may help you to start achieving your goals aggressively.
Be Clear About The Goals
If you want to accomplish something, be clear about it. For example, instead of saying you want to become a writer; say you want to learn the necessary steps to write your first book in 2018.
This goal is focused and will direct you to write a book. It will also give you the opportunity to learn the necessary steps of writing a book instead of being a general writer. The golden rule is to be specific!
Write Down The Goals and Tasks
Once you have a clear goal, write it down with all the tasks you need to do to reach the target. A goal that is not written down is not achievable! Find a tool to capture your goals.
Writing it down will give you the opportunity to review it and check your progress on a daily basis. It will also give you a room for adjustments. I use a Task Manager software called Nozbe to create and manage my tasks.
Make The Goals Enjoyable
Why do most people quit their goals? They become apathetic and find the goals not enjoyable anymore. Discover ways to make your goals enjoyable if you want to keep on moving.
Making your goals enjoyable encourages you to keep on moving even when things do not go your way. Try to add a little bit of humor into your goals. It will relief the stress and help you to keep on moving forward.
Stop Being Perfect
Perfection kills the momentum! You may work hard to make your goals perfect, but perfection is not an option in the real world. Unless you live on a different planet, keep it simple.
Perfection might slow your progress or jeopardize your chances of achieving your goals. I’d encourage you to start and keep on moving forward; you can make adjustments as you go.
Hold Yourself Accountable
When things do not go well, don’t fall into the trap of blaming others. Sometimes, it is easy to blame it on others. Instead, discover how to find your way around the road block.
The bottom line is to take ownership of your goals no matter what. It will help you discover different ways of doing things. Sometimes we focus on the bigger picture and miss some opportunities.
Reward Yourself for Task Completion
When things go well, reward yourself for your accomplishment. Rewarding yourself will give you the energy to continue to the next step in achieving the goals.
There are many ways you can use to reward yourself based on your personal preference. Find one to reward yourself when you complete one task of your bigger goal.
